Job Description:
Per Diem varied Day Summary: To provide continuous staffing coverage of the M.I.C.U. to render basic and advanced life support care in the pre-hospital emergency care setting. To function as a member of the health care team in the Emergency Department. Education: Graduate of an Accredited School for Paramedics.Associates Degree or higher Preferred Experience: One (1) or more years MICU experience post-certification preferred. Experience in emergency driving. Special Skills: Valid drivers license and clear driving record. Current & Valid State of New Jersey Paramedic Certification. ACLS Certification, CPR Certification, IV Certification and Unit Based Orientation, Completion of MICU Orientation, which includes the appropriate age and developmental competencies of the patient population served by the Mobile Intensive Care Unit. PALS & BTLS/PHTLS Certifications strongly recommended. Demonstrates effective interaction and communication (oral, written, presentation) skills. Ability to perform work accurately and pay attention to details, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure. Ability to function competently in stressful situations and a changing work environment related to changing patient needs, including working with patients with acute, chronic, and complex disease processes, and those who are dying. Ability to work cooperatively within the health-system; with patients and family members; and with multidisciplinary team members, perform job related responsibilities, and respond quickly to emergency situations. Ability to use critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills effectively problem-solve and deliver care. Supervision Expected: Emergency Medical Technicians, Police Personnel, Fire Personnel, Family, Friends, Bystanders, Nursing Home Staff (i.e. CNA, LPN, Supervision Received: Supervision from the MICU Manager, Clinical Shift Coordinators, Medical Director, MICU Emergency Department Physician via telecommunications (if available). Working Conditions: Patient care area hazards with exposure to all pre-hospital operational environments, including but not limited to: Fire Scenes, Motor Vehicle Accidents. Entrapments, Disaster Operations, Hazardous Materials Operations, Search & Rescue Operations, Water Rescue, Exposure to Blood and Blood Products, Confined space & Trench Rescue Operations, Air Medical Operations, Emergency Vehicle Response, Ambulance Transport, Terrorism Hazards, Biological Hazards, Nuclear Hazards, Chemical Hazards, Infections, Puncture wounds, Strains & sprains, Blood-borne pathogens, HIV related illness, Varying noise levels, often very loud. Frequent Pushing, Pulling, Sitting, Standing. Lifting and carrying over 25 pounds. Heavy Lifting, Patients/Equipment. Considerable Walking, Reaching, Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Talking, Constant Listening, Occasional Hiking. Filing, typing, photocopying. The Mobile Intensive Care Unit operates 24 hours per day in all weather conditions. OSHA: Bloodborne Pathogen Category I Employees in this job description are expected to have contact with bloodborne pathogens and as such they are required to be oriented and annually trained under the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration''s Bloodborne Pathogen Standard (CFR 1910.1030)
